What Did I Leave Whistling From the Super Bowl?

Robinhood016

So last night was a rather depressing (if like me you are a Broncos/Manning fan) game.  A great game for the Seahawks and our oldest son is quite happy this morning since that is who he wanted to win.  Bruno Mars was impressive, and the Anthem brought tears to our eyes.

But what pray tell did our family and friends immediately latch on to late in the 3rd Quarter?  Why nothing less than a refrain from Disney’s own “Robin Hood” in a T-Mobile Commercial.  In fact it was ALL over the Disney Twitter-verse that a commercial had used a refrain “Whistle Stop” (known to parents, children, and yes Disney devotees everywhere) from this classic seventies animated feature.  Sung by one of our favorites, Roger Miller as Allan-A-Dale, the rooster and narrator of the piece, it’s catchy and I warn you, it WILL get stuck in your head:

The very simple (yet obviously effective) T-Mobile ad.

And remember this is the property of Disney, just sharing to share the love.

Do You Wanna Build A Snowman?

We saw Frozen right before Christmas, and one of the most endearing parts for me personally was sweet little Ana constantly asking her sister: “Do You Want To Build A Snowman?”

See?  Doesn’t it just make your heart ache for her?  And I remember those snow days as a kid sitting there looking at the snow wishing I could go out and play.  Unfortunately in my native Indiana we would have snow days but maybe get 1-3 inches.  Only on VERY rare occasions would we get feet like we get now in Wyoming.  And interestingly enough Snow Day doesn’t appear to be in their vocabulary.

But, another part of the film that we loved was OLAF!  I was expecting some cookie cutter, oh so cutsie wutsie supporting character.  Then I reminded myself when he opened his mouth, “Um, sweetie, this is Disney!” and they didn’t disappoint!  Our family loved Olaf.  In fact he had to have been one of the most endearing supporting characters to come along for me in a LONG time in animation.  But I digress.

So there is this “Winter Vortex” circling through the Mid-West where I am from so I thought “I know how miserable my snowmen were with so little snow, freezing tempsand so many snow days.  There has to be a way to build a snowman without any snow.”  Then it clicked and I made this!

Something fun, that helps you and the kids to learn how to draw and yes, pass those snow days away without having to scrounge in the snow.  Unless you really want to!

So take it my friends and enjoy the Do You Want To Build A Snowman? Game featuring our family favorite, Olaf!

Toons for Tuesday!

We’ve decided, not nearly enough people know who Horace Horsecollar is, or Clarabelle Cow. Heck, there are some Disney fans who have trouble with discerning the relationship between Donald, Scrooge, and Huey, Dewey, and Louie.

So every Tuesday we will feature a Disney toon, some old some new. And maybe (if we’re lucky and can find one) a cartoon featuring the toon of the week. So without further ado one of Walt’s first creations, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

Originally introduced in “Trolley Troubles” in 1927, Oswald was co-created by Walt and Ub Iwerks for Universal Studios. Much has been written about the back and forth on the creation of this character, intellectual property rights, etc. However, it is interesting to note that Universal wanted a more plucky & determined fellow than Oswald, so he served as the basis for Walt’s next creation: Mickey Mouse.

Oswald was a star in his own right and for some 20 years his cartoons appeared. Though Walt lost the rights to Oswald, he was returned to the Walt Disney Company in 2006. Fans of Epic Mickey will note his character returned just in time to be utilized in the development of the story of the new gaming franchise; introducing Oswald to yet another generation of Disney fans.
